Re Lation Ship
I choose to see the picture in smaller pieces. It helps me remember that a relationship is the state of being connected. Re – Implies that this is something to revert back to. Re quite literally means, again. Lation is derived from the Latin word Latus or ferre, which means to carry on, the act of bringing or proposing. Ship, in the Germanic sense, implies a pairing of two characters. It can speak to the condition, office status, tenure, skill, or even a group collective.
Considering all of those individual components of the word, I can honestly say Relationships are complex. They are not necessarily complicated but more like an interchange than a highway. If I break down the above individual pieces, I can see that relationships are not static.
The Bonsai
Compatibility doesn’t just happen. It is created and nurtured. If reflection on the needs of the other and the self is not a priority, a relationship will reach a point where the road behind is so overgrown with neglect that neither party can get back to the path.
If nothing else, brokenness gave me this perspective.
Love and relationships are gifts you have been given so that you might genuinely recognize the fragility of a partnership.

Relationships are like ancient Bonsai; they must be pruned of their dead wood and shaped into what allows them to balance growth and stability with the perfect amount of water, sunlight, and even darkness. A Bonsai is easy to destroy if its care is imperfect, often without showing any outward sign of the trauma it is fighting against.
We have all lost a few beautiful bonsai.
My wish for you, my dearest reader, is to grow. Please don’t stop trying to be the best version of yourself in every relationship you have, and I hope those, in turn, do the same for you.
