I specialize in a more Gentle Yoga Flow that can support poses from a Chair alongside traditional Asana. Dont let the name fool you, Slow Flow Classes can often be more challenging than speedy vinyasa flow classes. We will develop poses with intention and alignment and hold them for longer periods of time. This method prevents injury, develops core strengt, and balance. Slow Flow classes are for beginning students who are developing a sense of yoga and exploring styles and will help more advanced students refine their understanding of precision and alignment. Restorative Hatha Yoga and deeper Yin Yoga are perfect for those students wanting to open and relax those deep muscles and tendons. Yin yoga is a perfect and necessary companion to a strength building practice. Once a month I will offer a Restorative Yoga session. Here students can relax in fully supported poses while engaging in deep breathing and guided meditation.

Here’s what regular Yoga practice may do for you:

  • Develop core strength
  • Enhance joint stability & mobility
  • Increase circulation
  • Improve posture & balance
  • Ease back & neck pain
  • Improve glandular function
  • Boost immune system response
  • Increase stamina & endurance
  • Improve digestion & elimination
  • Increase lung capacity
  • Decrease cholesterol & blood sugar levels
  • Encourage weight loss
  • Boost vitality
  • Increase longevity

Yoga Styles

Slow Flow

Slow-flow yoga is an intentional practice that utilizes longer holds and breath-centered movement. It is excellent for those who want to deepen their practice and perfect for beginners who wish to explore flow without the speed.

Foundations

Foundations of Yoga is designed for beginners and established practitioners who want to develop or refine a precision and alignment-based yoga practice. This practice is instructional and not intimidating. The Foundations of Yoga class will allow you to explore the primary poses and establish the strength and stamina required for more advanced courses.

Yin Yoga

While Yang yoga, a predominantly Indian Hatha Yoga Style, (Vinyasa) physically targets the ‘superficial’ muscles, Yin yoga, an Eastern Style, will target the body’s deep connective tissues – the ligaments, joints, bones, and deep fascia networks. A Yin class usually consists of a series of passive floor poses held for several minutes. These poses work the hips, pelvis, gluteus medius, inner thighs, and lower spine as well as the upper part of the body including the deltoids, wrists, upper trapezus. scapulae, rhomboid muscles, latissimus dorsi, obliques. In otherwords, Yin is a deep full body experience.

Yin yoga improves energy flow, (chi), by targeting the energetic chanels of the meredians, nerves, blood and lymph systems.

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga is a modified form of traditional yoga that utilizes chairs to facilitate those who may have mobility or stability concerns. It is very gentle but challenging, depending on your approach. It is suitable for seniors and people with limited mobility.

Restorative

Restorative Yoga is a very gentle, slow-paced practice that incorporates a lot of support and props. The focus is on stillness and deep breathing. It’s a beautiful opportunity to unwind and reconnect with yourself. This practice is entirely floor-based.

Somatic Movement

Somatic Movement

Somatic Movement is incorporated into most of my Yogic Instruction. Clinical Somatics allows you to release chronic muscle contraction to retrain your body’s posture and movement patterns that may be causing your pain.

Pandiculation

This is the essential natural stretching and yawning movement of all animals. It is a fundamental component of our neuromuscular function. When we stop pandiculating, our muscles become tight, and we experience pain, postural distortions, and limited mobility. In other words, we age unnecessarily!

To read more about this phenomenon – Check out the Somatic Movement Center – The article on Pandiculation is fascinating.
